History:

In 1875, cricketing enthusiasts - predominantly members of Trinity Church, Bordesley - decided to maintain sporting interest during the winter months by forming a football club. They called it Small Heath Alliance. Ten years after the club was formed it turned professional, and in 1892 waas elected to the Second Division of the Football League. In 1888 the club dropped "Alliance" from its title, and in 1905 changed the name again, to Birmingham. Since 1945 it has been officially known as Birmingham City. The club originally played on waste ground near Arthur Street, but within two years had moved to Muntz Street in Small Heath. St Andrews became the club"s home in 1906. Top class honours have proved elusive for the Blues, but under current manager Steve Bruce they regained top-flight status - via the play-offs - for the first time since 1986. In 2003-04 they achieved their highest-ever finish in the Premiership - 10th.
